Trying to Find My Calling in Life: What I Know at This Point? This is Hard
So I know that there is kind of an urgency to get these blogs done, but the theme of this blog has inundated my life with much grief (in the past few months). We have all subjected ourselves to the arena of twelve years of public (or private) schooling in order to be competitive in applying to Brigham Young University (and other colleges). Now that we are here, I think some of us, including myself, have lost sight of why we are here...to find a career that we can happily pursue for the rest of our lives. I have found myself just going through the motions lately, meaning that I have just been aimlessly attending my classes and not giving much thought to my future. However, now that I ponder the realms of my future and future job, I realized that I am more uncertain than I thought. For instance, I thought I wanted to pursue a career in statistics and mathematical analysis. After taking an introductory statistics course, I have found that the subject matter of this major does not interest me that much. I have looked into returning to a public health major and pursuing PA (physicians assistant) school, but even that avenue is very uncertain to me at this point in time. I have found out this much: thinking about it helps. So I guess my advice from this post is to take time out of your busy day to think of your future. That is ultimately why we are all here gaining a higher education. That is a major reason why we exist. That is what will dictate how well we all will be able to support our families. So take my advice and investigate your "calling in life". You have to do it sometime..why not start now?ha

This has been giving me grief too! I thought I had it all figured out pre-college, I wanted to be a sports broadcaster- but now I am wondering if I would enjoy another career path more, and feel pressured to decide what ASAP!
ReplyDeletewell, unfortunatly I do not have this problem. About 3 years ago I decided that I wanted to be a neurosurgeon and I still want to be and I am still heading in that direction. I knew that I would have to wreck house in school, so I worked hard to get accepted to BYU early and I graduated high school from a community college. I also knew that my grades could not compete with others with a college gpa of 4.00 so I decided to become a EMT to get experiance and make my application look better to Med schools. I don't know anyone that is as prepared as me and i am not trying to brag. I am just saying that you have time and just about every other freshman is like you trying to figure out what they want to do in life. the Lord will help you out (as long as you do your part) But DONT forget to party as well. We are only freshman once.
ReplyDeleteI have this same problem. I have yet to start taking classes for my major, but i am interested in being a PA as well. You will eventually figure it out. You are still a freshman so no rush!
ReplyDeleteIt is a competitive world and only the strongest will survive. My dad's a human resource manager and he tells me if someone doesn't have a certain GPA then he won't even look at the app cause his company can afford to hire the best. Every grade effects your GPA which effects your life and family. Work HARD!
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you how much this has been a concern of mine. Seriously, like I have done so much fasting and praying about it. You are right, one of the main purposes of this life is to gain knowledge. I also think that if we are doing what is right, we will have more guidance into what direction we should take.
ReplyDeleteI think the main purposes of going to college (besides having fun) is to increase our knowledge and to make increase our employability to provide for our future families. Although these are serious things, we are still 18 and have plenty of time to decide.
